Bonham/ Muddy Acres Tour

We've had overwhelming interest (from family) for us to post some movies and explain what Bonham is.  So here's the short explanation... Bonham is property (about 100 acres) of land that David's mom owns about an hour north east of our current home.  We call it Bonham because that is the name of the closest decent size town.  We've recently nicknamed it "Muddy Acres", I'm not sure if it's customary all over the country or not to name your ranch/ farm but here, in Texas it's very much the thing to do.

Over the past 2 years we have made improvements to the property.   We have added a "residence" (a used mobile home), a barn and a gravel road to the house.  It's quite far off the main road-- so far that running electric to it was going to cost over 30K (which is absurd) so we went "off grid" as they say and installed a diesel generator and battery pack and just recently have bought the solar panels to convert to solar power which will be nice (less need to ever run the noisy generator).  We were able to hook into a water district line for water and we have a propane tank for heat when the fire place isn't enough.  The house is basic but very nice considering it was "a repo", it serves the purpose nicely.  Allows us to sleep in beds, take hot showers and cook food in a kitchen & even do laundry.  But enough about the house, more about the property.  Its has two big fields which are in hay production (rented by the neighbors), there is a decent size pond w/ fish and the rest is flood plain with two converging dry (most of the time) stream beds (I say stream loosely because they're 20 feet deep and 20 feet across).  Most of the property is covered by dense brush and tall hard wood and other trees.

Toys: David has acquired a track loader, tractor, chainsaw and a few 4- wheelers.  These items have helped to navigate/ and cut trails on the property.  We also have an old 4X4 Jeep that we leave up there to drive around and occasionally we bring up the big rock crawler.  We have a fire pit for campfires and Dave is working on an outdoor kitchen.

Animals: Lots of birds, spiders and bugs. There are deer, coyotes and other small wild animals like armadillos and possums, oh, and plenty of  pigs, big wild pigs.

Things we still are planning to do - put a bridge in over one of the dry stream beds so we can get to all the property with a vehicle.  David wants to build a dam and make the current pond bigger.  I want to learn more about the trees and birds and eventually build Greyson a tree house in the BEST ever (not sure what kind) oak tree.

And the best part about Bonham...what it does to the kiddos:)
