Catch up on December

Greyson has a set of books for beginning readers.  It's really great and he has really started to put sounds together and read on his own with this set.  The real news here is how excited he is to be doing it.  He has always liked hearing stories every night but now that he can read these simple books he is just loving this new skill.   He gets them out all the time to practice and he is so proud of himself for knowing how to read.

His new school has really worked wonders with him.  Here are some items that have really taken off in the past six months

He is so confident and sure of himself when he talks to others and even with some adults now.  His handwriting is unbelievably improved and his coloring is really improved as well.  He is learning addition and subtraction.

His teachers have stated over and over to me how impressed they are with his math comprehension and with his ability, willingness and focus when putting together larged numbered puzzles.  They are, as we are, floored by how much his handwriting has improved. This school has been so wonderful I am so glad we found it early on.

We had a huge ice storm which left us with a back yard full of what looked like snow  but was really sleet for about 5 days.  School was closed on Friday then also on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!  Greyson had some fun with a makeshift sled (laminated map from work)  here is a movie of him sliding down our back yard.

and here once he got the hang of it:

There was only one minor injury that thank goodness it didn't leave a scar so we won't mention it again :)

Here are a few pictures ( I didn't take very many because I wasn't outside long)

when you don't have a sled you have to use what you do have.  This junk laminated map from work had already been used once as a paint drop cloth.  Recycling to the fullest.

notice the hand holds that were added as well, a little trial and error to get it just right and it turned into the perfect sled.

Here's one of Greyson hugging his snow buddy.

Reese the only one that would go play in the snow with him.

Here are a few from the day before the snow (it was 81deg) we enjoyed a nice walk down behind the property.  The neighbor had kindly spread rye seed so the trail was nice and green :) lots of new fallen trees back here this year will make for endless fire wood this winter:)

Grammy and Grampy left NY at 3AM this morning on their drive down.  They should be here my late Christmas eve.  Looking forward to their visit and seeing all of David's family on Christmas.
